One of three Flak Towers, or "Flakturm" built by the Nazis and meant to shoot down Allied airplanes. After the first bombings of 1940, Hitler ordered the construction of three Flak Towers, one at the Zoo in the Tiergarten (Flakturm I), one to the northwest in the borough of Humboldthain (Flakturm III) and one to the northeast in the borough of Friedrichshain (Flakturm II).
